Bows

Our father, Maestro Giovanni Lucchi, always made the search for the finest materials the foundation of his bow making, and he taught us to do the same. The most demanding musicians value and seek out our work for the particular care we take in sourcing and using the best raw materials. The Pernambuco our father carefully selected with the LucchiMeter more than thirty years ago is still the wood we use today for bows of the highest quality.

The appearance of a Lucchi bow comes from a deep understanding of classical French style, reinterpreted over the years by Maestro Giovanni Lucchi. By placing particular importance on the bow’s function, he developed a personal model. As a leading figure in Italian bow making, he passed that same model on to the generations of bow makers who learned the craft from him.

Our rigorous approach ensures quality, and experienced musicians, as well as others, can feel it. That is why we invite our clients to try a bow at length, including under demanding conditions, such as playing pianissimo at the tip. This tests the entire stick, its camber and its graduations, revealing any weak points. Excellent grip at the tip means that the sound will carry, without requiring a heavy head, as is often mistakenly assumed.

We believe that only the finest bows perform well when pushed to their limits.

This is our philosophy: musicians should find an ally in their bow, helping them concentrate on the performance and almost forget the bow itself.

TYPES OF LUCCHI BOWS

Our violin, viola, cello and double bass bows are all made with materials of the highest quality, following the exacting approach that has characterised our work for over forty years. Energetic, elastic and responsive, they meet the needs of musicians at every level, from beginning students to established concert performers.
